Happy customers don't leave reviews on their own.
The competitor with more stars isn't doing better work. He asks every time.
Turn Completed Jobs into Future Work
A paid job is your best shot at a review, if someone remembers to ask.
Once a customer has paid, I automatically send a review request, while the completed work is still fresh in their mind.
The job may be finished, but building your reputation doesn't have to end with it.
What You Get
- Review Request on Payment: the request goes out once the customer has paid.
- Every Job, Same Request: every completed, paid job gets asked, not a filtered few.
- One Record: the request sits on the same customer as the quote, the job and the payment.
Common Questions
What if a customer leaves a negative review?
I can't stop a negative review from a real customer with a review-request system. Your strongest move is responding to it directly and in writing, which also shows future customers how you handle problems.
Can the request go only to customers who were happy with the job?
No. Review gating (sending the request only to customers expected to leave a good review) violates Google's policies and can get a business's reviews suspended entirely.
I send the same request after every completed, paid job, not a filtered subset.
What if a competitor posts a fake review?
You can flag a fake review from a competitor, a former employee, or someone who's never been a customer to Google for removal, though Google doesn't act on flags quickly or consistently.
Your most reliable defence is volume. A steady stream of real review requests after every job means a handful of fake or negative reviews carry less weight against the total.
When does the review request go out?
Once the customer's payment is confirmed, so the request reaches them while the work is still fresh.
More Stars from Customers Who Already Paid
Every paid job gets asked, not only the ones someone remembers. Over a season, that puts more stars beside your name than the shop that asks when it thinks of it.
Those stars are what a homeowner checks beside your name on Google Maps and in ChatGPT before they call. The request goes out once the payment clears, so you never ask for a review before you've been paid. The report then traces that paid job back to the ad or search that started it.
